The Pauls Moss scheme will see housing for the over-55s and a brand new medical centre built in the town.

The plans are due to go before Shropshire Council’s north planning committee this spring for a final decision.

If it is given the go-ahead, it has been revealed that work on the site will begin by August this year, with an opening date pencilled in for July 2021.

Members of the council’s health and wellbeing board are due to be given a presentation on the scheme at a meeting next Thursday.

Becky Jones, responsible officer, will present a paper and information to the committee on the scheme, which will bring all the town’s GPs under one roof.

Her report to the board says: “The Pauls Moss Project in Whitchurch is an innovative health and care development that seeks to support the community of Whitchurch by enabling people to live independently for longer, support people with long term conditions, create an environment where there is a much greater focus on prevention.

Enhanced

“It will also provide a setting for the delivery of modern primary care services, enable enhanced primary care services to be delivered along with extended hours and integrated pharmacy services.

“The overall project represents an investment of around £17 million across the partner organisations.

“The scheme has been developed over the past two years with partners coming together to agree on a joined-up approach to new health care facilities, affordable supported housing with 24/7 care, pharmacy provision and other community facilities.”

She added: “The project includes specialist housing accommodation, modern health care facilities that are fully integrated with other community services along with a community hub and state-of-the-art assistive technologies and has been progressing well.”

The development will include a medical centre with 21 consulting rooms; a pharmacy; 74 extra care apartments for the over 55s, all of affordable rent; a private lounge, activity room and garden space for residents; and staffing facilities to accommodate 24/7 on-site care.

It will also include community rooms and a restaurant/cafe.

The proposed development of the medical centre is being funded by both Shropshire Council and NHS England capital funding.
