Two GP practices in Telford reveal merger plans
Two GP practices in south Telford are to merge, it has been announced.
Doctors at Stirchley Medical Practice and Sutton Hill Medical Practice have announced their intention to merge their practices into one.
They are going to manage the care of their patients as one larger practice for the administration, though they will still be providing care at both sites – Sutton Hill and Stirchley.
They will be making this changeover from April 1.
Dr Andrew Inglis, from Sutton Hill Practice, said: “We are two neighbouring practices who have often collaborated over the years.
"Both have very good track records for the care we provide.
"There are great similarities in both our attitudes to the care we deliver, and in the populations whom we serve, so this merger seems like a natural evolution for us.”
Dr Michael Innes, from Stirchley Medical Practice, said: “Given the advances in medicine and the changes in demands on services as we live longer, being able to provide care for a larger population offers a real opportunity for further improvement of the care we can provide.
“We are really excited about joining forces.
"Both practices have great respect for each other and we know that together we will be able to do much more for our combined population of around 24,000 patients.”
It is planned that both sites will be available for the combined population of patients.
All existing administrative staff and some of the doctors and nurses from Sutton Hill Medical Practice will be combining with the existing administrative and clinical staff at Stirchley Medical Practice.
The practices say they will endeavour to put patients through as little upheaval as possible, particularly in the changeover period.
The practices are currently working through the formalities of the merger, which has been given the go ahead by NHS England.
