Dr Arne Rose, 50, will take over the position at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (Sath) from Dr Edwin Borman.

Dr Borman will become the trust’s new director of clinical effectiveness.

Dr Rose, originally from Kiel in Germany and who now lives in Birmingham, is the current associate medical director for integration and transformation at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

He will take up his new role at Sath, which runs Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford's Princess Royal Hospital, in June.

He said: “Having visited Sath on three occasions recently, I was impressed by the energy and commitment of clinical and non-clinical staff to do their best for patients in difficult circumstances.

"I could also see the progress that has been made here since I had been on a previous visit with NHS England in September.

“The people of Sath are what persuaded me to apply for this post – friendly, engaged and helpful, they come to work every day to provide the best possible care for patients.

“I was also able to talk to some patients and visitors inside and outside the hospital.

"The people of Shropshire support their local acute trust, and they deserve a level of care that is of the highest quality.

“Clearly, with the trust under a lot of scrutiny, there is some very hard work and a long recovery ahead of us. I pledge that I will do my utmost to help this trust improve its outcomes for patients.

“I am excited and delighted to take up this role and I am looking forward to serving the people of Shropshire and beyond. “

Outside of work Dr Rose, who is married with three children, carries out work for Restore UK, a charity which helps Syrian refugees settle in the UK.

In his new role, as director of clinical effectiveness, Dr Borman will be responsible for improvements in clinical practice, promoting innovation and supporting the transformation of clinical pathways.

He will also be responsible for the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), complaints, research, quality and clinical audit.

Simon Wright, chief executive at Sath, said: “We look forward to welcoming Arne to our team at Sath. I am delighted that, with Arne and Edwin, we will have two doctors as part of our executive team.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to appoint someone with Arne’s experience to build on the work we have already done with our medical staff to make improvements at the trust both now and for the future.”
