Shrewsbury girl Cleo’s charity drive hits £20,000
Friends and family of a young Shrewsbury girl with an inoperable brain tumour have raised £20,000 for charity.
Cleo Postlethwaite, 10, has anaplastic astrocytoma, often called called glioblastoma, a fast-growing form of cancerous brain tumour which only affects a few children in the country.
The Team Cleo Fund was set up by mum Jane Parks and Cleo herself and has raised £20,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity to help fund research into tackling the cancer.
There have been a series of events including sponsored runs, bake sales and concerts, with more on the way.
"Cleo's experiences have moved so many people," says Jane, 40. "At the hardest time of our lives, losing our beautiful girl, all we can reiterate is that we want to spare other families in future from going through similar loss.
"Research into brain tumours is woefully underfunded and yet glioblastomas kill children. There is no cure and the only available treatment buys a little time and no more.
"This has to change. So we will be carrying on fundraising and campaigning for The Brain Tumour Charity through the Team Cleo Fund until a cure is found. No one else should have to lose their child in such a devastating way."
