Victoria Hall, assistant practitioner, Louis McDonald, project manager and Claire Birch, clinical specialist practitioner, will be running for The Orthopaedic Institute Charity, based at Oswestry’s Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

They will be helping the charity raise £39,718, to support one of the many research projects carried out by its team. Money raised will go towards a study focusing on osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, a debilitating condition that affects approximately one in five adults over the age of 45 causing pain, disability and a reduced quality of life.

Principal investigator, Dr Karina Wright, said: “The long-term outcomes of treatments for early OA are currently difficult to predict and therefore it remains a challenge to decide who to treat by which method.

“Our research team seeks to address some of these issues and to improve the treatments for early OA by increasing our understanding of disease progression in the joint and by identifying certain biological markers that might indicate which patients will benefit from a particular treatment.”
