Telford health chief welcomes new electronic patient records system
Telford & Wrekin Council's health boss has welcomed moves to integrate patients' records across the county.
The move will mean hospital doctors or ambulance crews attending a 999 call will be able to access the same crucial information as a GP when they need it.
It will prevent people being asked for information repeatedly, and ensure that their care preferences are shared and understood by all those caring for them.
Telford's cabinet member for health and social care Councillor Andy Burford, said: “We very much welcome the electronic integrated health and care records system being extended to our borough and allowing healthcare professionals to view information held by different health and care services.
“It means we will be able to improve quality and outcomes for those being treated across Telford and Wrekin.
Accessible
“In an emergency, it is important that the clinician knows as much about you as possible to make the right decisions about how to treat you.
“People are often frustrated when they have to repeatedly give the same information to different parts of the NHS and social care. There can also be delays caused by records not being easily accessible. This new system will help put an end to that.
“My message to our residents is: If you’re happy for your health and care records to be available on the integrated health care records extended to Telford and Wrekin, you don’t need to do anything.
“If you’d like more information, including details of how you can raise an objection go to onehealthandcare.net."
To explain the new system to residents, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin health and council partners are holding a 12-week “'Fair processing’ campaign" to promote the system.
