The report talks of the urgent need to tackle the issue of unhealthy weight in the county.

Councillors are to discuss the Shropshire-wide plan this week, amid figures that show more than two-thirds of adults in the county are an unhealthy weight, along with one third of children.

If they agree a consultation will take place on the 'Healthier Weight Strategy for Shropshire' to run from 2023 to 2038.

A report, which will be discussed by councillors on Shropshire's Health and Wellbeing Board, describes "unhealthy weight" as "a significant concern for Shropshire".

It says the situation is being driven by changes to lifestyles with people moving less, and eating more unhealthy food.

The strategy outlines the level of worry over the problem, stating: “We urgently need to respond to the problem of unhealthy weight in Shropshire to improve the health and wellbeing of the population.

"Levels of overweight and obesity have been rising relentlessly over recent decades and are predicted to rise even further – particularly among children and more deprived populations.
