More than 60,000 people on waiting list for routine treatment in Shropshire

More than 60,000 people are on the waiting list for routine treatment with the county's NHS – 5,000 more than 12 months ago.

The figures, from NHS England, come as the NHS across Shropshire was today preparing for a fresh round of junior doctors strikes – affecting Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH), Shropshire Community Health Trust (Shropcom), the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and GPs.

The total waiting list for routine treatment in Shropshire at the end of June was 60,409 people – up from 54,017 a year previously.

The numbers waiting at SaTH were at 35,176, actually down on the 35,250 in June 2022.

At RJAH there were 14,688 waiting at the end of June, up from the 14,004 in June 2022, and there were 10,545 at Shropcom – significantly up from the 4,763 the year before.

Of those waiting a total of 3,536 have been waiting for longer than a year – 2,335 at SaTH, 1,178 at RJAH, and 23 at Shropcom.

Nationally, 7.6 million people were waiting to start treatment at the end of June.
