Former Shropshire consultant says urgent care must take priority in NHS
A former consultant gynaecologist has urged health chiefs to make urgent care the priority, as he recalls his 50 years spent in the National Health Service.
Shropshire councillor Bernie Bentick has reflected on his time in the NHS and has called on the Government and health chiefs to prioritise urgent care.
It comes as the NHS is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
Councillor Bernie Bentick, who was born and raised in Liverpool, gained a degree in medicine in 1978 and had a long career in women's health before retiring in 2021.
He helped set up the Shropshire Fertility and IVF Service in 1991 as a consultant in Shrewsbury and Telford.
Over the following 27 years, the fertility service helped more than 12,000 couples have more than 8,000 babies.
