'It just gets miserable': Telford woman shares joint pain experience as 80 per cent of women suffer
A Telford woman has spoken out about her experience with joint pain, as new data reveals women are shouldering its physical and emotional impacts.
The Healthier Nation Index – a poll of 8,000 UK adults by Nuffield Health – has revealed that a staggering 80 per cent of British women have suffered or are currently suffering with joint pain.
It comes following recent findings from Versus Arthritis which showed 50 per cent more women suffered from osteoarthritis than men.
New figures from the Healthier Nation Index reveal that joint pain impacted nearly half of women’s sleep (47 per cent) as well as emotional (44 per cent) and physical (46 per cent) wellbeing, significantly higher than their male counterparts.
Jane Goodall, aged 65, from Telford, has been suffering with joint pain for the last three to four years and says it has progressively got worse with age.
She said: "It's more general aches and pains due to old age, but I remember going to the GP before Covid due to pain in the hip and knee and they just said essentially 'you're getting old Jane', but it's a bit like toothache and it just gets miserable."
In March of this year, Jane hyper-extended her knee just by sitting on a tall stool when she was out having Sunday lunch one weekend.
