Future Fit: Government will 'respond in due course' over council's legal letter on hospital shake-up plans

The Government says it will respond "in due course" to a council letter about the future of the A&E service at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.

Telford & Wrekin Council leader council leader Shaun Davies has written to the health and social care secretary calling for a response after a legal request was sent to the Government six months ago.

The council fears a decision is imminent on the 'Future Fit' scheme, now known as the 'Hospitals Transformation Programme' and it has urged the Government to end its "six-month silence" on the hospital review.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “Changes to NHS services are rightly based on clinically-led decisions at a local level, and NHS England worked closely with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust to put forward the Hospitals Transformation Programme.
