It had been hoped that the venue and conference space in central Telford could be adapted to provide large numbers of coronavirus vaccines at once, and now councillor Shaun Davies says he is "over the moon" it has been confirmed.

In a statement today the Telford & Wrekin Council leader said: "[I am] over the moon that after much fighting for and pushing I have it confirmed a mass vaccination site at the Telford International Centre will be up and running by the end of this month.

"We are fighting for this to be brought online earlier and we continue to work hard to support the Government to make this happen.

"On the vaccination front things have been too slow in Telford and Wrekin and that must change.

"Big thanks to the TIC too."

The car park at the centre has already been used as a drive-through coronavirus assessment site, a temporary private care facility for coronavirus patients and potential patients.
