Councillor Kirstie Hurst-Knight contracted coronavirus over the Christmas period, despite following all government guidelines, and said she hopes to continue her full position in Bridgnorth next week.

Involved in a planning meeting on Monday, Councillor Hurst-Knight said she was still struggling to speak and a Bridgnorth Town Council meeting last night was led by deputy mayor Councillor Sarah Barlow as a result.

Councillor Hurst-Knight said: "I'm definitely feeling better than I was and I'd like to think I'm recovering well.

"I've sat down and tried to speak but it's still a struggle to get my words out.

"I can't explain the fatigue, it's horrendous. You often hear symptoms of painful joints, a loss of taste and smell, but it's hard to explain just how tired you get."

Councillor Hurst-Knight compared the virus to Scarlet Fever with a bad chest infection.

"It's reassuring that people have described coronavirus as a 28-day cycle – if I follow suit then I'm hoping another week and I'll be better," she added.
