Telford's rapid Covid test centre closed due to snow
Telford's rapid coronavirus testing centre has closed due to heavy snowfall in the borough.
Telford & Wrekin Council had to close the rapid test centre at The Place in Oakengates as snow fell across the county this morning, leaving roads in the area dangerous to drive on.
Snow was expected to continue to fall throughout the day and the council has advised people to only travel if absolutely necessary.
A spokesman from the council said: "We have had to close the rapid testing centre at The Place in Oakengates today due to the snow.
"We are contacting those customers affected by today's closure. If you were booked today, please rebook here: rapidtest.telford.gov.uk.
"Our rapid test centre is for those with who have no coronavirus symptoms. We are particularly encouraging people who can’t work from home and need to go to work to book a rapid test regularly.
"All of the NHS Test and Trace sites across the borough remain open for anyone with symptoms of coronavirus and access to these is good."
Council crews gritted the roads last night and this morning, but teams on the ground have been monitoring conditions and were set to grit as required throughout the day.
Roads into Ironbridge also remained closed this morning.
The combination of heavy flooding over the past couple of days and snow has meant that ice is lying under the fresh snow – making driving conditions particularly dangerous.
