Four further coronavirus deaths at Shropshire hospitals

A further four people have died at Shropshire hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19.

NHS England today confirmed the patients died while in the care of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH).

It means 418 people have now died with coronavirus at hospitals throughout the county.

Of the total, 388 have died at SaTH, 24 at Shropshire Community Health Trust and six at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.

According to the Office for National Statistics, there have also been 218 Covid deaths in care homes throughout Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, as well as 160 deaths in Powys.

Nationally, a further 609 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 67,046.

Patients were aged between 30 and 101 years old and all except 14, aged 41 to 96 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

Of the 609 deaths nationally, 98 were recorded in the Midlands.
