Another six people have died from coronavirus at Shropshire's hospitals.

The latest deaths, announced by NHS England, take the total number of people to have died with the virus at the county's hospital trusts to 455.

Latest figures show that five deaths were reported at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust (SaTH) and one at Shropshire Community Health Trust.

A further nine deaths were reported at the acute centres run by SaTH on Saturday.

There has now been a total of 424 Covid deaths at SaTH, 25 at Shropshire Community Health Trust and six at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital.

Elsewhere across the Midlands a total of 141 hospital deaths were listed, the highest regional figure to be reported by NHS England.

According to Office for National Statistics, 227 people have also died in Shropshire care homes.

The ONS also shows that 173 people have now died with the virus in Powys.

An NHS England spokesman said: "A further 563 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 71,789."

"Patients were aged between 24 and 99 years old. All except 29 (aged 34 to 97 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from 14 December 2020 to 30 January 2021 with the majority being on or after 26 January.

"Their families have been informed."
