Four more Covid deaths at Shropshire hospitals

There have been four more deaths of patients with Covid-19 at hospitals in Shropshire.

NHS England confirmed today that two of the patients died while in the care of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), which runs Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.

The remaining two died while in the care of the Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.

This brings the total number of deaths in Shropshire hospitals to 472 since the pandemic began.

Of the total, there have been 438 deaths at SaTH, 28 at the community trust and six at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also show that a total of 246 people have now died in county care homes with Covid-19. In Powys, 173 have died with the virus, according to the ONS.

Nationally, a further 630 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 74,249.

Patients were aged between 7 and 102 years old. All except 30 (aged 40 to 99 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Of the 630 deaths, 133 were recorded in the Midlands.
