The design for a proposed Shropshire NHS Covid Award

The British Ironwork Centre has already been involved in designing giant rainbow sculptures for hospitals over the past 12 months.

Now its chairman, Clive Knowles, has submitted a design for an award to be given to NHS workers in the county.

He said he would be happy to offer the resources at the centre near Oswestry so that the county would have its own award.

Mr Knowles said: "I have submitted my proposed NHS Covid Award design to the Department of Health of Health and Social Care and also written to Shropshire and Telford Hospital Trust, for its feedback on the design.

"If an NHS Covid award is supported by government, we would wish to offer our resources to create a specifically Shropshire design, for the county to have its own unique style.

"The prospect that nationally all NHS workers would have a mass produced medal, leaves me a little de-moralised as I feel that we can do something extra special for Shropshire, something that is more tailored to our county and to our local preferences, to honour our county's health workers."

The design encompasses the colours of the rainbow.

"We want Shropshire to stand out from the crowd." Mr Knowles said.

The centre is known for its artwork. It produced a spoon gorilla for Uri Geller and is the home of the anti-knife crime sculpture The Knife Angel, created by artist Alfie Bradley.
