The borough council said: "Infection rates have been high in these areas, as well as testing rates being relatively low with a high proportion testing positive.

"Please get tested if you live in Donnington, High Ercall, Egmond, Cherrington, Crudgington, Tibberton or Waters Upton."

At the latest count, the rolling rate of infection in the Edgmond & Church Aston district, which also includes Tibberton and Waters Upton, was 157.3.

In Newport South, it was 219.7.

In the Ironbridge, Admaston & High Ercall district, which is how the Government groups them, it was 328.

The statement from Telford & Wrekin Council said: "You should self-isolate immediately and book a test if you have any of the Covid-19 symptoms: a high temperature; a new, continuous cough; a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

"A free NHS test can be booked on the government website."

"Many local residents who have tested positive for Covid-19 showed the following symptoms: headaches; aches and pains; feeling very tired for no good reason; sore throat; runny nose; sneezing; tummy ache in children

"If you show any of these symptoms we ask that you get tested. You do not need to self-isolate unless you receive a positive test result.

"When booking, in the section 'Why are you asking for a test?, please select: 'My local council or health protection team has asked me (or someone I live with) to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms.'"

Rapid test sites have continued opening around the borough, including at the Anstice in Madeley, Cosy Hall in Newport or the Place at Oakengates.

More pharmacies will open to offer rapid tests in the coming weeks.
