Another five Covid deaths have been confirmed in Shropshire.

The NHS confirmed two more Covid deaths at the county's major hospital trust

New figures show two people have died in the care of Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), and another three people have died in care homes in the county.

It means that there have now been 562 Covid deaths at Shropshire NHS trusts – 521 at SaTH, 34 at Shropshire Community Health Trust, and seven at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows that 281 people have now died in county care homes – 207 in Shropshire, and 74 in Telford & Wrekin.

Figures also show that 224 people have died with the virus in Powys.

The UK-wide death toll, which only includes deaths within 28 days of a positive test, increased by 343 to 123,296 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 17,985,951 coronavirus vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 3,390,097 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 97,891 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and March 1.
