Two further Covid deaths confirmed in Shropshire hospitals
Another two people have died with Covid at Shropshire's major hospital trust.
The latest figures from NHS England confirm that both patients died while in the care of Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH).
It means that the total number of people to have died with Covid at county NHS Trusts is now 580 – 539 at SaTH, 34 at Shropshire Community Health Trust, and seven at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.
The number to have died in Shropshire care homes is 287.
There is more positive news in the shape of vaccine figures for the county which show 202,111 people have received a dose of the Covid vaccination – 135,826 in Shropshire, and 66,285 in Telford & Wrekin.
That figure is up by 19,798 on the same time last week.
It means 90.7 per cent of those over 60 have received a dose in Shropshire, and 97.4 per cent in Telford & Wrekin.
NHS England confirmed a further 159 deaths on Thursday, meaning 84,935 have now died in the country's hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19.
A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 159 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 84,935.
"Patients were aged between 35 and 99 years old. All except 11 – aged 64 to 91 years old – had known underlying health conditions.
"Date of death ranges from December 11 to March 10, with the majority being on or after March 5.
"Their families have been informed."
