Pictures From The Past - December 8Welcome to this week's collection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.By Toby NealPublished Dec 8, 2017 CommentsThe death of Christine Keeler means that all the main players in the Profumo affair which rocked Britain in 1963 have now passed on. Here, before the scandal broke, John Profumo, Secretary of State for War, arrives at Shrewsbury to lay the foundation stone at the new Territorial Army centre at Sundorne, Shrewsbury, on October 19, 1962. This picture was loaned by Roy Pilsbury of Shrewsbury, but comes originally from the Frank Painter Collection, and was given to Alan Painter by a Mrs Lee of Taxi Lee's, which had a taxi business in Belle Vue in Shrewsbury. The car Profumo used on his visit was a Taxi Lee's car - an Austin Princess. The TA centre was demolished in January 2015. Does anybody know what happened to the "Profumo" foundation stone?
