Despite the rain and icy conditions, the festive Bug Splatz Motorcycle Club event attracted about 130 bikers for the 21-mile ride on Sunday.

Club secretary, Sarah Harrison, said more than £1,000 had been raised which will be split between Shelter and Telford Women's Refuge.

The public lined the streets to see the bikes, led by chairman Paul Myler, on their route which starts at The Travellers Joy in Horsehay, Telford, and takes in Ironbridge, Madeley, Woodside, Sutton Hill, Tweedale and Brookside.

Sarah said: "It's our 17th annual Christmas run and there's only been a couple of years we've had to cancel it. Thankfully it wasn't last weekend or the bad weather and snow would have cancelled it.

"It was a little bit wet and we were concerned about people not turning up but thankfully, at the last minute, people started arriving. We usually have people travelling from all over the country to take part but we said if it's not safe, to not travel.

"As always though there was some fantastic bikes and trikes covered in tinsel, glitter and lights, and people dressed up like Father Christmas and snowmen. People in Telford love it because it's quite a sight."

The line-up featured bikers from across Shropshire with a host of clubs turning out to support the Bug Splatz MCC event.

Bikes ranged from classic Harley Davidsons, trikes, modern road bikes, to classic scooters and bikes with side cars.

The ride ended back at the pub for drinks followed by a charity auction and raffle and an awards ceremony for the best dressed bike, trike, male and female.

Sarah added: "People are always so generous. We ask for a £2 donation to take part but people were throwing in £20 notes which is just fantastic, and people were bidding lots of money in the auction."
