The operation to ferry bread, sugar, coffee and powdered milk into the blizzard-hit areas was a total success despite thick fog. The helicopters, a Wessex and, seen here, a Whirlwind, returned to Shawbury in the afternoon after a three-hour airlift. The team was led by Squadron Leader Mike Tingle and Flight Lieutenant Tim Wood.
