Summit's up as Shropshire glider soars over Snowdon
This view of the summit of Snowdon was captured by fliers from Shropshire's Midland Gliding Club as they soared above the highest mountain in England in Wales in rare conditions of perfect visibility.
And they created a stir among sightseers on the summit who had an unexpected "sight" in the form of the glider overhead.
Chris Ellis of the gliding club, which is based on top of the Long Mynd, said: "It is amazing where you can get to without an engine. This photo of the summit of Snowdon was taken by Midland Gliding Club members Julian Fack and Steven Gunn-Russell while on a mountain soaring expedition to North Wales last Friday, April 5.
"The club organises trips to sites both in the UK and abroad two or three times a year to give members experience of flying over different terrains and a variety of weather patterns.
"This photo was taken from 5,000 feet and attracted the attention of quite an audience at the summit railway station, for whom the glider circling overhead certainly caught their attention.
"The flight originated from Llanbedr airfield on the Welsh coast where 10 gliders and crews from the Midland Gliding Club and Wrekin Gliding Club from Cosford had decamped for a week spent soaring round North Wales, although it is not uncommon for flights to be made from the Mynd to the North Wales coast and Snowdon.
"The glider was a Duo Discus owned by Julian Fack although the club K21 training glider was there and did similar flights. For further information readers should go to www.midlandgliding.club."
