Between 50 and 60 men who had been on strike the previous week for higher piecework rates had voted on the Saturday to return to work, but when they arrived on Monday they found their cards had been removed from the clocking-in machine. "This is a lockout," said Eric Timmins, of the General and Municipal Workers' Union.
