Pictures From The Archive – February 26Welcome to this week's selection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.By Toby NealPublished Feb 26, 2021Last updated Feb 26, 2021Frankwell air raid wardens having a celebratory dinner at the Cross Guns pub, which used to stand on the corner of New Street and Chapel Street, Frankwell, and was demolished in the 1960s. This picture is thought to have been taken during the war. At the head of the table in the distance was the man in charge, chief warden Jimmy McNamara, a local butcher and later mayor. Fourth in from the front, right, is Eric Reece, looking at the camera. He was a butcher too. Front, either side, are Mr and Mrs Jones, who were married and lived on the corner of New Street and Dummy Lane. Just beyond Eric Reece is Bert Chant (face partly obscured) who was on the Great Western Railway. This picture is via Shrewsbury historian and author David Trumper.
