The gardener won't be pleased, but then there is a war on. The caption written on the back of this picture in our archives reads: "Cabbages on lawn of Guildhall, Shrewsbury." It has the datestamp of July 12, 1941. During the war all sorts of open spaces were put to use to grow vegetables as part of a "dig for victory" effort.
