Pictures From The Archive – August 6Welcome to this week's selection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.By Toby NealPublished Aug 6, 2021Last updated Aug 6, 2021This picture was carried in the Shrewsbury Chronicle of Friday, November 1, 1940, with a caption which read: "Shrewsbury Home Guard parade on Sunday. Lord Bradford takes the salute." The location is the High Street, Shrewsbury, with the old Shirehall on the right. We can name at least one of the soldiers. Reg Emberton is, as you look at the picture, in the right hand file of soldiers, second from the front (that is, the front excluding the saluting soldier). He was co-founder of Walker Emberton & Co, a household, textiles and soft furnishing shop in Princess Street, in 1946. It closed in 2006.
