The annual show, which has been running for more than 140 years and celebrates all things Shropshire, will take place at the Greenhous West Mid Showground on May 27.

It attracts people from miles around who come to savour all the countryside has to offer.

From prize winning cows, sheep and pigs to a funfair and horse and dog shows, the event has something to please all tastes.

There is also live music, craft tents and a motorbike display team who last appeared at the show in the 1990s.

This year the popular poultry section will be missing from the show due to concerns over avian flu. Show bosses decided last month that birds would be banned from the show due to guidelines from Defra over the gatherings of certain species of bird including chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese.

The show organisers are determined to make the 2017 show events more attractive than ever.

A full programme from early morning of arena attractions are planned and includes the Wirral Marching Piping Band and a display of horses and carriages. There are also the young farmers whose floats and sense of fun will entertain the crowds.

There is also the tractor pulling event where huge tractors arrive from all around the country and occasionally from abroad to take part. The sledge that is pulled to demonstrate the machines' immense power will be specially imported from the Netherlands to appear at the show.

"As each successful year passes we are determined to make the next show even better than the last", said show manager Ian Bebbington.

"The show committee has given me the authority to book the best attractions that are available on the day, no expense, within reason, has been spared. I have not let them down and believe the non-stop programme we have booked will thrill everyone.

"The Shropshire County Show is a great opportunity to boast about the great things on offer in Shropshire and across the Midlands, from livestock to local businesses and of course the local produce. The support from the local community and visitors is outstanding, and we hope that in 2017 this will continue to build and will be even bigger and better than last year."

And he advises anyone intending to come to the show to book tickets early to save money.

Other tickets are also available online and it’s much cheaper if purchased in advance. Children under the age of 13 are admitted to the show free with an accompanying adult.
