Students should snap up new course
A new photography course will be starting next week at a Shrewsbury school.
Programme leader, Richard Bishop is a professional photographer and qualified lecturer delivering photography courses in Shropshire schools and colleges up to degree level.
He said: “These courses are the product of many years of experience and success and they are suitable for complete beginners and more experienced photographers.
“We are looking for people with the enthusiasm and commitment to learn about ISO, shutter speeds, apertures, focal length and so on so that they can use their camera on manual settings and start making great images.
”Anyone can enrol on the courses. Don’t worry if you are a complete beginner; we assume nothing in advance. All you need is the desire to discover, interact and respond to the theoretical and practical input of the sessions.
”The other important part of the courses is about the more exciting side of photography; looking at composition, and incorporating the elements of art in photography, contextualising subjects such as portraiture, architecture, landscape and time exposure.”
Student Kevin Moore said: “Richard's beginners' course manages to get across a lot of technical knowledge without ever being intimidating. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and in eight weeks got everyone confident in getting their cameras off 'Automatic' and unafraid to use manual settings. More than anything it's really good fun and by the end we were all taking photos that we'd have previously never imagined."
The eight week sessions start at Belvidere School on May 17 and run from 6pm – 8.30pm.
