Newport Rugby Club will have the minute's silence for Jason Francis and his partner Alice Robinson during this weekend's match against Nuneaton.

Jason, 29, who played rugby for Newport and Bridgnorth, and football for Market Drayton Town FC, was struck by a car in Scarborough, Perth, at 8pm on December 22.

He was taken to the Royal Perth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Alice died shortly afterwards.

Jason played for a number of local teams across Shropshire, and those who knew him said he was a dedicated and talented sportsman.

More than $44,000, or about £24,600, has been raised in memory of the couple via a crowdfunding page. An additional £16,000 was raised during a charity rugby match in Bridgnorth.

Jason's family will be at the match on Saturday, which will begin at 2.15pm, and the club is encouraging supporters to attend as a tribute to the young couple.
