Owen's 10 day walk to raise awareness of mental health problems
A West Mercia police sergeant will be tracing the route of the River Severn next month to raising money and awareness for the Rock 2 Recovery charity.
Owen Atwell will spend 10 days between May 3 and 12 will be walking from the source of the river near Plynlimon, Mid Wales, to where it meets the sea at Severn Beach near Bristol, a distance of 212 miles.
Much of the route will go through Shropshire, and he is hoping people we say hello when they see him and even join him for a few miles.
Owen will be carrying everything he needs for the 10 days on my back and sleeping rough each night.
Rock 2 Recovery supports veterans and members of the emergency services who are struggling with Mental health issues such as PTSD and anxiety.
Owen said: "Unfortunately we don’t need to look very far these days to find someone who is struggling as a result of trauma sustained in service either to the military or the emergency services. Obviously the aim is to raise some money, but also to raise awareness and encourage people to talk and ask for help.
"I want to encourage others to speak out, in both the military and blue light communities that I am proud to be part of."
