More Covid deaths in Britain

There have been nine new deaths in the UK due to Covid, according to the latest Government figures.

The latest update, six deaths in England and three in Wales, came within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

In Shropshire the most recent death from the virus at a county hospital was on March 21.

To date a total of 595 people have died with Covid at county NHS trusts – 554 at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, 34 at Shropshire Community Health Trust, and seven at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.

Figures from the ONS show that 296 people have died with the virus at county care homes – 219 in Shropshire and 77 in Telford & Wrekin.

In Powys 268 people are confirmed as having died with Covid since the pandemic began.

Across the UK 268,251 people were given their first vaccine and 420,312 their second dose.
