M6 stretch now clear after lorry fire causes 90-minute delays
Two lanes of the M6 were closed this morning and traffic was delayed by more than an hour after a fire involving a lorry.
The lorry fire was reported on the southbound M6 between the M6 Toll and Junction 3 at Coventry before 6am.
Two of four lanes were shut by emergency services and National Highways said a "complex recovery and clear-up operation" took place. West Midlands Police and the West Midlands Fire Service were in attendance.
By 7am, congestion had reached five miles and two lanes remained closed. By 9am, there were eight miles of congestion with delays of up to 90 minutes.
The clean-up was complete by about 12pm and all lanes reopened shortly after. Congestion began to ease and National Highways thanked motorists for their patience.
Motorists heading south were advised to allow extra time for their journey.
