A tortoise is on the loose in Bridgnorth after digging out of his owner’s garden for the second time in just a few months.

Kevin is six years old and the size of a dinner plate and is now hiding in a field that backs onto his owner’s house.

Marie Sever said Kevin escaped onto the field at the back of St James Drive and Stourbridge Road last September, and has daily injections to combat his illness from his last escape.

But Kevin dug his way out of the garden again last week and Mrs Sever is growing concerned.

The 61-year-old said: “Our garden is on different levels and he has dug his way out.

“The brambles are about four feet high in the field and we can’t find him. He’s done it before.

“Last year he was found by a dog walker.

“He’s six years old and I have had him since he was eight weeks old and he was about twice the size of a 50p.

“He’s probably the size of a dinner plate now.

“He’s still not very big; he’s got a lot of growing to do.

“Normally he should be able to stay in the garden for the whole of the summer as he bathes in the sun.

“After he went missing last year he’s been ill and I had to inject him every day.

“He’s still not very well, that’s why I’m concerned, he’s going to get more ill not better.

“He’s not going to have a problem finding food but if it rains he’s going to get ill.”

Kevin was a birthday gift to Mrs Sever from her daughter.

“I’m happy to give a reward, I normally give a couple of bottles of wine,” she added.

“Kevin is supposed to have a bath once a week. He’s very pampered and now he’s gone and done a runner.”

Mrs Sever has posted an appeal on Bridgnorth social media groups on Facebook.

If anyone has spotted Kevin, she has asked to be contacted on there.
