Wayne Anthony Jones, from Ketley, suffered a broken femur, two broken ankle bones and dislocated his shoulder after the crash.

It took place while he was riding with an instructor on the A442 Telford Road, near Bridgnorth, on Thursday evening.

The 30-year-old father-of-three had essentially finished the test when it is understood that he was involved in a crash with a car towing a caravan. He was airlifted to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Police say the crash involved a grey Saab, a black Volkswagen Passat and three motorcycles.

Wayne's father Bill Jones, 54, from Ketley, said he had been doing well on the test and had not "done anything wrong all day".

"He broke his femur, both bones in his ankle and dislocated his shoulder," he said. "It was on the bike training test at the time.

"Both the breaks are quite bad and he's got to have both operated on.

"He was very capable and hadn't done a thing wrong all day. I was at Shrewsbury Hospital until about 9.30am last night and his wife is with him.

"The test was over, he had passed and hadn't done anything wrong all day. It won't put him off riding, if he'd done something wrong then maybe. He had no chance at all."

He added: "The instructor behind Wayne was also involved in the collision with the car which destroyed his bike, but he wasn't hospitalised."

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the crash, which happened on Thursday before 2.15pm.

An ambulance and paramedic area support officer was also at the scene.

Cars travelling in the area were urged to avoid the route.

Police say investigations into the crash are ongoing.

Kieren Bodill, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "West Mercia Police were called at approximately 2.15pm on Thursday, August 24, to a collision on the A442, Telford Road in Bridgnorth.

"The incident involved a grey Saab, black Volkeswagan Passat and three motorcycles.

"Investigations are still ongoing to establish the cause of the collision. The driver of the Saab, a woman in her 20s and the driver of the VW, a man in his 20s, were uninjured.

"Two of the bikers were injured and were taken by ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment. The third managed to stop and was uninjured.

"There was a road closure in place while emergency services responded to the incident. It was later reopened around 4.12pm."
