About 65 past pupils and four former teachers of Oldbury Wells School gathered at Bridgnorth Rugby Club for the reunion on Saturday evening.

Former pupils from the class of 1977, Paul Goodyear and Jes Rutter, started organising the event about a year ago.

Over time, former students started getting in touch on social media websites or news travelled through word of mouth.

Mr Rutter, who now lives near Badminton in Gloucestershire, said: "It was a really good event.

"Everyone was really nervous before we got together.

"In the end it was like time had stood still for 40 years."

The group enjoyed a buffet as they recalled memories of being at Oldbury Wells School and spoke about where their lives had taken them.

Mr Rutter, 56, said: "The eldest of the teachers there was Sylvia Robbins, our old maths teacher. She's now 85.

"It was amazing to see everyone.

"There were quite a few people who came that we were not expecting.

"I recognised about half of the people instantly.

"We chatted about old stories that happened. There were lots of things I caught up on that I had forgotten about.

"Everyone was walking around and talking to each other. There was a really good mix of people.

"There were also a few couples at school who went on to get married."

Mr Rutter said he was now planning on helping to organise another reunion in two year's time.

He added: "I've been told there were about 300 people in our year and we've only been able to get in touch with about 120 of them so far.

"We'd love to hear from anyone interested in coming to the next reunion.

"I've got happy memories of being at Oldbury Wells School. It's a shame you lose touch with people over time."
