Rubbish left by the riverside in Bridgnorth

This overflowing bin at the riverside in Bridgnorth had at least 13 bags of litter and takeaway food boxes next to it at about 7.30am yesterday.

Resident Ralph Walker, who spotted the mess, said: "I went for a walk along the riverside in Bridgnorth this morning it's lovely place, but it's spoilt by the amount of rubbish.

"I was walking from the bridge to Severn Park and found that somebody had left a barbecue tray and bottles on the steps.

"As I got to the park I noticed that all the bins were absolutely overflowing.

"You would have thought the bins would have been emptied by that time of the morning, especially on a Bank Holiday."

Waste collections in the town are the responsibility of Shropshire Council.

Bridgnorth town councillor Carol Wittle said: "I have pointed out previously that due to our town being so popular with visitors that appropriate arrangements be put in place to clear the rubbish in good time on Bank Holiday weekends.

"It's not the town council's responsibility."
