Angelic move from Bridgnorth knitters

Hundreds of handmade angel Christmas tree toppers are available for free in Bridgnorth – after church members gave up their time to knit them.

The congregation at Cartway Church came together in knitting and crochet sessions to create more than 400 ‘Good News Angels’, which were placed outside the church on railings.

Members of the public were free to take an angel home, and will be again this weekend when they are returned to the railings.

One woman knitted more than 100 of the angels herself, and the church’s Reverend Kate Cook contributed her own too.

She said: “We did it last year and the angels all disappeared very quickly, so we made sure to make more this year.

“They’ve been made throughout the year by the church’s members and friends of the church.

“Each one is different because they are all handmade and done by different people.”

Kate said the angels signify the “peace and goodwill” of the Christmas period.

Before they are put back outside for people to take, the angels are on display inside the church for the play group and general congregation to see.
