Woman rescued from River Severn near Bridgnorth

A woman was taken to hospital after being rescued from the River Severn near Bridgnorth.

Emergency crews used a line to help the woman, who was in the water at Severn Valley Country Park in Highley.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to the area shortly before 3.30pm on Thursday.

A total of five crews including an incident command and water rescue units were sent from Bridgnorth, Cleobury Mortimer, Shrewsbury and Tweedale to the scene.

Also at the scene of the incident were West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) and West Mercia Police.

WMAS sent an ambulance, a community first responder and a paramedic officer to the scene.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called by the fire service at 4.18pm to the River Severn near Highley to reports of a patient in the water. An ambulance, community first responder and paramedic officer attended the scene. The patient, a female, was rescued by the fire service and given treatment on scene before being taken to hospital for further care."

The fire service reported: "This incident involved the rescue of a female from the river who was left in the care of the ambulance (service)."
