Bridgnorth youth club is saved by donations
Residents and businesses in a town have got together to raise £12,000 to save a valued youth club.
After Shropshire Council announced it wouldn’t be funding Bridgnorth’s Innage Lane Youth Club, the community stepped up to save the club for young people who needed it most.
A crowdfunding campaign was launched on March 2, and they managed to reach the goal of £12,000 which will fund a contract with qualified youth workers and allow activities to be put in place for 12 months from April 1, 2021 for two age groups.
Councillor Julia Buckley thanked all the businesses and residents who donated.
The fund has now reached more than £15,000 and it has been announced that all the extra money will be donated to the Bridgnorth Youth Forum.
“A lot of these businesses were completely closed in lockdown and still put their hands in their pockets to donate,” Julia said.
There have been more than 370 donations, with the last push of funding coming from Nock Deighton – the estate agents donated £400 which pushed the campaign over its £12,000 goal.
Other donors included Bridgnorth Lions, Peepo Pizzeria, AFC Bridgnorth, Middle Severn Angling, Simply Stylish and Butlers of Bridgnorth.
