Overturned canoe on River Severn sparks 999 calls
Two canoeists manged to get to dry land after their craft capsized on the River Severn.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service mobilised its water rescue unit and five other crews after 999 calls were made, fearing the paddlers could need rescuing from the cold water.
The alarm was raised just before 11am today in Bridgnorth.
Crews were mobilised from Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Shrewsbury and Tweedale. A spokesman said two people managed to get to the river bank prior to the fire service's arrival and the firefighters were stood down at 11.17am.
