Tributes paid to well-known Bridgnorth sportsman and charity figure
Tributes have poured in for a well-known sportsman from Bridgnorth.
Richard 'Dickie' Day died aged 92 while suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
He will be remembered as an active sportsman through cricket at Stanley CC, football at Eardington Wanderers as a player and Bridgnorth Colts as founding chairman, and latterly golf, playing at Bridgnorth Golf Club and captaining them in 1991.
He was also a former member and past president of the charitable Bridgnorth Lions Club.
As per Richard's request the funeral cortege started from Bridgnorth Golf Club where past captains and friends lined up to pay their last respects.
Kevin Day, Richard's son, said: "On behalf of myself, Rob Day, Rod Richardson and grandchildren John, Mark, Heather, Katarina, Aedan and Ellie, we would like to thank those who added colour to Richard's life, kept in touch and also to the amazing staff at Wheatlands Care Home and prior to that, the wonderful ladies at Brown Clee Care. We are forever grateful.
"A further celebration of dad's life will take place later in the year at Bridgnorth Golf Club, when permitted."
In lieu of floral tributes, a memorial page raising money for the Alzheimer's Society can be found at richard-day1.muchloved.com and has raised hundreds of pounds.
