The incident occurred at May House Farm in Alveley at about 5.15pm on Saturday.

A spokesman from Bridgnorth Fire Station said: "We have spent the evening dealing with a large barn fire in Alveley.

"Smoke was visible from a number of miles away.

"An additional three appliances from Wyre Forest Fire Station and Cleobury Mortimer Fire Station supported us at this incident.

"The barn contained a quantity of straw and hay as well as farm machinery which accounted for the thick black smoke.

"We were able to quickly surround the fire, attacking it from two doorways. This meant it was unable to spread to other nearby barns.

"Crews will return to the barn overnight to ensure any remaining hotspots are cooled and extinguished."

On the way back from dealing with the barn fire, firefighters from Bridgnorth were sent to a blaze involving a vehicle on the A454 Hermitage roundabout.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which burnt out the car – believed to be an Audi A4 – at 9.30pm.

The spokesman added: "While on our way back from the previous barn fire we were mobilised onto a car fire.

"One vehicle was fully involved in a fire in a field off the roadway, without the owner being present.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet were deployed to control and extinguish the fire.

"The vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, which we believe to have been an Audi A4. If you have any information, please contact 101."

Anyone with information on the vehicle fire should call West Mercia Police on 101.
