St Calixtus Church in Astley Abbotts, Bridgnorth, welcomedthe Rt Rev'd Richard Jackson at a service of celebration and thanksgiving.

The church has recently had a new roof installed, repaired timber and completely restored its organ.

During the service the Astley Abbotts and Tasley joint choir sang and a presentation was made to the Rev John Webb, who retired after 10 years at the church as the part time vicar.

Juanita Gennard, church secretary, said a whole new roof was needed as well as a new organ.

"The roof was very much in need of repair, it was very old and had holes in," she explained. "We were very lucky that we had a legacy left to us which enabled us to go ahead with the project.

"It has taken a couple of year – we started planning in 2018 and through lockdown last year it all had to stop. But it is finished now.

"The Rt Rev'd Richard Jackson joined us for a Sunday morning Eucharist service, and it was great for him to come, not only for us, but for him as he hasn't been able to attend events recently due to the pandemic.

"Thanks to the glorious weather the congregation were able to safely socialise and enjoy refreshments outdoors after the service."

Sunday services have now resumed, visit 'St Calixtus, Astley Abbotts' on Facebook to find out more details.
