The Wenlock Olympian Games has been held every year since 1850, when it was founded by Dr William Penny Brookes.

In 1890, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the International Olympic Committee, visited the Much Wenlock Games, before hosting the first modern Olympics in Paris six years later.

On Thursday, November 9 at 7pm in the dining room at the The Fox pub in Much Wenlock, the Wenlock Olympian Society is to hold its AGM.

It comes as the Much Wenlock games recently featured on 'The Midlands Through Time' three-part series on Channel 5 hosted by Jay Blades from the Repair Shop.

A spokesperson for the Wenlock Olympian Society said: "The meeting is open to the public for those who just wish to observe business.

"We have a fantastic bubble of volunteers across a range of activities and events related to the historical Games and more. We are certainly always open to more people joining and benefitting from this special organisation and its story."
