One man taken to hospital with serious injuries after Much Wenlock crash between car and van

A man has been taken to hospital after a car and van collided in Much Wenlock.

Witnesses said the incident was on the A458 Victoria Road and saw queues form in the town following the crash, which occurred around midday on Thursday.

West Mercia Police said it was called to a collision at the junction of the A458 (Victoria Road) with the A4169, B4378 and the High Street at around 11.50am. 

A spokesperson said: "Several people were treated by the ambulance service at the scene and one man was taken to hospital. The road was blocked by debris but has since reopened."

The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it received a call at 12.39pm reporting that a road traffic collision had taken place.

A spokesperson said one fire engine was sent to the scene, where crews made the vehicles, a private saloon car and a van, safe.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said  they were called at 11.44am.

A spokesperson said: "Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival we found three patients, a man and a woman from the van and a man from the car. The man from the car was assessed and had sustained serious injuries which were not life-threatening. 

"He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The man and woman from the van were assessed and declined further treatment from ambulance staff and received self-care advice before being discharged at the scene. Three further occupants of the car did not require treatment from ambulance staff.”
