MP welcomes extra £1m for home adaptions for disabled people in Dudley
Almost £1 million of extra funding is being made available to help disabled residents in a Black Country borough live with dignity.
Dudley MP Sonia Kumar welcomed an extra £967,194 being made available to residents in the borough through the disabled facilities grant, which helps local authorities adapt homes for people with disabilities with modifications such as stairlifts, ramps, and accessible bathrooms.
Mrs Kumar, who worked as a physiotherapist before before entering parliament, said the funding was a huge boost for disabled residents across her constituency,.
“As an NHS physiotherapist, I know this boost in funding will help make everyday living safer and easier for people who face physical challenges," she said.
"Everyone deserves the chance to live independently, and I’ll continue to push for further resources to support our community.”
Mrs Kumar said anybody wishing to apply for a grant through the scheme can find more information on the council website dudley.gov.uk/residents/care-and-health/adult-health-social-care/support-to-stay-independent/disabled-facilities-grant/.
Anybody needing assistance with the application process can contact Mrs Kumar's office by emailing sonia.kumar.mp@parliament.uk.
She said the funding reflected her continued efforts to improve health and social care services, having championed improvements to healthcare, accessibility, and better living conditions for residents.
She previously backed residents in a campaign to save the Sycamore Adventure Centre, which provided vital support for children with special educational needs and their families. She has also worked to address the gaps in childcare provision across the Black Country and advocated for fairer funding for local councils.
But she added: “While this funding is welcome, it’s clear that more needs to be done.
“Many people are still struggling to access the support they need. I’ll continue championing Dudley nationally and working alongside local leaders to ensure everyone in Dudley gets the help they deserve.”
