Road by Stourbridge Golf Club to shut for two months

Motorists may face travel misery to allow for essential water quality works to be carried out.

Racecourse Lane in Stourbridge, between Norton Road and Ounty John Lane, will be closed from March 20 to May 12.

The road, located on the outskirts of Stourbridge and next to the golf club, is just off the Hagley Road and links to the Kidderminster Road.

Ward councillors have said that the 'dangerous' road and the work 'may cause congestion.'

Councillor Mike Attwood said: "The road is often closed off around once a year so people do get used to it being closed but may cause congestion.

"Although I've had no complaints or concerns passed on to me over the years."

Councillor Heather Rogers said the road is 'very dangerous' and there is 'no other option' than to shut the road when carrying out work.

She said: "The road is very dangerous because there's no pavement and there's a load of blind and dangerous bends so drivers can't see the traffic coming around them.

"The road is often closed off for any sort of work including the maintenance of trees or hedges - there's no other option than to shut the road."

She added: "There are other ways around and drivers don't need to necessarily use Racecourse Lane.

"However, more work needs to be done to the road but it's still very dangerous."

A diversion will be in place on Norton Road, Heath Lane, Hagley Road, Worcester Lane and vice-versa.

Complete Utilities Limited will be conducting the work on behalf of Amey.

Bells Lane in Wordsley will also be closed from March 27 to June 26 to allow for flood alleviation works to take place.

The road will be closed between Sandringham Place and south of the junction with Warwick Road.
